I grew up reading the music magazines like Rolling Stone, Mojo, and Billboard, scouring the pages for stories on my favorite musicians. I also bought a ton of books about musicians I liked. From the moment I first read Stanley Booths "The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones," the idea of writing about the music I love, and turning others on to that music, has become a driving force for me. Ive written for a number of small magazines over the past few years, and Im now at a stage in my career where I am finally starting to get my toe in the door at the major magazines.
My love for music is largely based upon the emotional and physical responses it can evoke. Im a sucker for albums that have lasting power: the Stones Sticky Fingers, the Beatles Abbey Road, Van Morrisons Moondance, Becks Mutations, are all favorites. My CD racks are stacked with Marvin Gaye and Sleater-Kinney, Ray Charles and Lucinda Williams, the Allman Brothers and Elliott Smith. Whether the music is 40 years old, or three weeks old, Im always looking forward to getting turned on to something new.
